“A Wonderful Tradition”: A dancing couple excited about the return of the live music event from Grand Haven

This summer will mark the 51st edition of the event.

GRAND HAVEN, Michigan – We are less than a week away from a tradition spanning more than five decades in Ottawa County.

Grand Haven is bringing back live music and dancing to its waterfront outdoor theater with “Music On The Grand”. A couple can’t wait to enjoy the annual event again.

Bill and Veronica Rosel have always danced their entire lives together.

One of their favorite times to dance the night away is Wednesday summer evenings at Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium during Music On The Grand. And now they’re both volunteers for the event.

“You can watch the sunset and watch the boats go by while listening to live music,” Veronica said.

“On a warm Wednesday night, it’s so relaxing,” added Bill.

Starting next week, Music On The Grand will be offering live music every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in June and July and from 6.30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in August.

This summer will mark the 51st edition of the event.

“Families, people ages one to 91 are going out, dancing and listening to music,” Bill said.

“Some people get up and dance freely and others do the typical style of social ballroom dancing,” added Veronica.

But the Rosels said if you’re not the type to get up on the dance floor, the outdoor stadium along the Grand River is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the music.

Bill said he and Veronica made it a weekly summer date.

“We go out, pack a picnic, listen to music, have fun and meet friends,” Bill said.

Last year, Music On The Grand was the only event in Ottawa County with live music during the pandemic. Masks were required on the dance floor and people were urged to distance themselves socially throughout the stadium.

This year, for now, Bill and Veronica say the event will still apply those same rules.

But for this couple, they say they are simply happy to find the dance floor along the Grand River.

“It’s exciting, it’s awesome,” Bill said.

Veronica agreed, saying, “Yes, this is really a wonderful opportunity for the community. We are very happy to have the opportunity to keep a tradition going.”
